What We Believe

We Believe in the "Triune God" as confessed in the Apostle's Creed:

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilot, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

We believe that we are born as sinners into a sinful world, deliberately participate in sin and are helpless to change our sinful condition and please God.
We believe Jesus, the unique God/man, was born, lived, suffered, died and rose to forgive our sins, put away God's wrath and gave us new life as children of God.
We believe that God gives the forgiveness that Jesus earned to all who trust in Him; and that God the Holy Spirit works this saving faith and trust in our heart through the Means of Grace: Baptism, the Lord's Supper, and God's Word.
We believe that the Bible is God's inspired, faithful and true Word, and the only source for knowledge about God and his love for us in Jesus Christ.

Holy Communion

At Hope, we practice Close Communion. This means we celebrate the Lord's Supper with those who believe as we do. If your faith is different from ours, please remain seated during Communion, and pray for those communing. Speak to the Pastor after the service about receiving Communion in the future. If you believe as we do, ask yourself the following questions in preparation for the reception of the Lord's Supper...

  • Do I believe I am a sinner and am I sorry for my sins of thought, word, and deed?
  • Do I believe that Jesus' sacrifice has paid the debt for my sins, and do I trust in Him alone for my forgiveness and my salvation?
  • Do I believe that in Holy Communion I receive the real body and blood of the risen Christ for the forgiveness of my sins, strengthening of my faith, and for my salvation?
  • Do I promise to reject my past sinful life and now live as the child of God that I am?

(If you have been baptized in the name of the Triune God, are in agreement with our Lutheran beliefs and have been confirmed, and answer "Yes" to the above questions, we welcome you to commune with us. Please register your communion in the friendship folder as it is passed.)

Our Mission / Vision

Our Mission Statement

“Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20

Our Vision Statement

The members of Hope Lutheran Church believe that they have been CHOSEN BY GOD (1 Peter 2:9)

Because we are CHOSEN PEOPLE and have been forgiven by God through the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we know that we now belong to a loving God.

As CHOSEN PEOPLE we acknowledge our ROYAL PRIESTHOOD & believe that we exist to reach out to those who do not yet belong to God’s family by being caring, loving, truthful, honest, genuine, and real about Jesus to those around us.

As CHOSEN PEOPLE we’ve come together to form a HOLY NATION (our congregation) that seeks out ways to provide safety, security, and peace (both now and forever) to our neighborhood, the Detroit metro area, the State of Michigan, the United States, and around the world.
Adopted June 2002
