Rev. John M. Duerr, Senior Pastor

 

Rev. John M. Duerr, our Senior Pastor, was born and raised in the Southern California area. Pastor John attended junior college at St. Paul’s College in Concordia, Missouri and graduated with a B.A. from Concordia College in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He earned his Masters of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. He did his vicarage (internship) at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. While on vicarage, Pastor John met his wife to be, Rebecca Burandt. They were married following Pastor John’s graduation from the Seminary in 1982.

Pastor John first served as a Missionary-at-Large for the Florida/Georgia District in Chiefland, Florida. Since then, he has served as Pastor of Discipleship and Youth Ministry at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lodi, California, and Senior Pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church in Cerritos, California. During those years the Lord blessed Pastor John and Rebecca with three children: Laura, born in 1985, Mark, born in 1987, Ryan, born in 1989, and Brooke Ann. Pastor John has served as Senior Pastor of Hope Congregation since the Spring of 1994.

Robert Scholl, Parish Assistant

After having served Lutheran Education for 30 years as a teacher and administrator in Indiana and Michigan, he joined Hope's staff as Parish Assistant in 1999. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Concordia Teacher's College, in Seward, Nebraska, and his Master's Degree in Administration from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne, Indiana.


Robert serves Hope in the area of adult education, nursing home ministry, preaching and assisting with worship services, and as an advisor to boards and committees. Robert and his wife Mary Kay have two adult children, Jason and Cory, and are proud grandparents to a grandson, Parker.

Skip Bandemer, Deacon

 

Skip's duties include Word, liturgy and Bible Studies. He is also responsible for developing a new Saturday evening mini-devotional service designed for the local community. The intent is to strengthen and enrich spiritual growth among the unchurched.

Skip graduated from the University of Detroit with a business degree in 1967, graduated from Walsh Collage in 1989 with a Masters degree in Taxation. Skip worked at GM in the Financial Department. Retired from Delphi Corporation as an Audit Supervisor and Sr. Business Process Consultant. Skip and his wife Nancy have a daughter Laurie and a son Todd, and four grandchildren.

John Wulff, Deacon

John is currently responsible for preaching as scheduled and Family Ministry. He is also responsible for developing a new Saturday evening mini-devotional service designed for the local community. One of John’s talents is woodworking. He made the beautiful altar furniture in the Family Life Center. At Zion Lutheran Church, he served as head usher, Vice President, and President of the congregation. At Hope, he served on the Board of Trustees and on the Board of Elders as Chairman.

John Graduated from Macomb Community College with an Associate Degree in Fluid Power Technology. John and his wife Deb have a daughter Cheryl, and a son John Jr. (who was called home to be with the Lord).

Dan oversees Hopes Youth Ministry (HYM) and the development and education of our churches youth. He serves as both the Youth Director and Chairman of the Education Team.  He leads the High School Sunday morning Bible studies, the Friday’s programs, the HYM Grads College programs, and is active in a variety of other ministries.  He is also an active speaker for local schools chapels, and many other retreats.  

Dan has been active in youth ministries since 1996. In 2000, he attended Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he achieved a Bachelors of Religious Studies. While at Concordia he met his wife, Moriah. He returned to Hope as a Youth Director in 2006.

2010 Men's Retreat

Join us for the 2010 Men's Retreat on March 12-13. The retreat will be held at Hope Lutheran Church this year, and promises to be a fun and meaningful experience.  Please see the document link below for more information.

The cost for the retreat is $40, which includes three catered buffet meals and a retreat shirt.

Education Financial Planning Seminar

Thrivent will be holding a “How to pay for College” seminar here at Hope, April 17th from 11AM to 2PM. This seminar will have three separate tracts in it.

-For those without kids or grandparents looking to start college funds.

-For those with young children looking to prepare for college.

-For those who are heading to college in the near future.

Learn about scholarships, financial planning, and find the best way for you to reach your educational goals. Plus, representatives from local colleges and universities will be on site to address your financial and admission questions. There is no cost for this event.
